🐟 MARBLE SENEGAL (Senegal Bichir) 🌎 Origin: West & Central Africa — Senegal, Gambia, Niger, Chad & surrounding river systems 📏 Adult Size: 12–16 inches (30–40 cm) 🏠 Tank Size: Minimum 4 ft for one adult; 5–6 ft preferred for long-term keeping 🌡️ Temperature: 24–28°C 💧 pH: 6.0–7.5 ⚡ Temperament: Generally peaceful but predatory; will eat fish small enough to fit in its mouth ⏳ Lifespan: 10–15+ years with proper care 🍤 Feeding: Carnivorous — sinking carnivore pellets, prawns/shrimp, earthworms, fish/shellfish-based foods; feed 1–2 times daily when young and appropriately for adults 🐠 Tank Mates: Large, peaceful fish of similar size such as large Severums, Oscars, larger catfish and other robust bichirs. Avoid small fish, shrimp and fin-nipping species. 🪨 Tank Setup & Care: Use a securely covered tank—bichirs are excellent escape artists and breathe atmospheric air. Provide caves, driftwood and shaded hiding spots with open swimming space. Use sand or smooth substrate and good filtration with moderate flow. Keep water clean and well oxygenated. 💙 AAF Tips: Never underestimate its jumping ability! Keep every opening tightly covered. Marble Senegal is mainly nocturnal, so dim lighting and plenty of hiding places will help it feel secure. Avoid overfeeding and never house it with fish small enough to become prey.
